Zale had an unusual career because prior to WW2 in what should have been his prime years he was just an average middleweight with many losses. After the war when he was over 30 was when he had all his great fights and became champ.

i don't think they were married, but cerdan was edith piaf's lover. Which fact certainly helped him to be a star outside the sports circle. Even tdday he's known here (im french)

Yeah, but Cerdan was 33 at the time of this fight and had over 100 fights.Zale was 34. I guess you are right though, every fighter has their own clock.

Cerdan is still very popular in France, maybe more known than Muhammad Ali.

Damn Cerdan looked great in this fight. Such a shame he died when he did and before we got to see a rematch with him and Lamotta.
