I'm really glad you posted this video. I drove this at night, in fog and rain, and really wanted to see the road that made my heart race, in the daytime.

Too bad no ones mentioned the curve where the big hillslide occured. My grandmother said it sounded like an atomic bomb going off. It's on the westbound side in the sharpest turn. Maybe that's why the can't put anymore lanes in? Hummmm...

I'm from Sewanee, and my parents live in Monteagle, and i've done the west side of the mtn at 120 myself...in a 1967 Galaxy 500. At the bottom i was at 147. Man i was stupid. It was amazing then but now scare the bejezis out of me!

This part of road is one of the reasons i enjoy driving to disney, from chicago. I truly enjoy this part, since my state and after hotlanta, the ride is kind of long and boring

I like speed myself but 120 is just a little fast for this stretch. Gotta watch out for the big rigs and whatnot.

I live in Murfreesboro (77 miles from Chattanooga). I travel the Mountain all the time. I always put my car in 3rd gear and don't touch the brakes or gas and average 65-70 mph downhill. Too many people would rather ride their brakes, not a good idea on this one LOL. I do agree an extra lane on the north side of the mountain would be nice.

Not to sound like a prude, but the Westbound downhill is only a 5% grade. But, the video was perfect, I drive that mountain four times a night, and I never take the Eastbound downhill run too fast. My old truck didn't have a Jake Brake and I learned quick that you can smoke the brakes with very little weight in the trailer. Great Job.
