Finally someone who understands. The educational department is in need of repair very soon, because humans, in general, dont think the same way or learn the same way. Some students think musically, others logically, and some visually. We clump most every kid into the same mold and we make them learn the same way, and we add on so much pressure to each student to succeed. Has it ever occured to some people that maybe the problem isnt our capacity for education as it is their means of delivery?

You haven't said anything that shows experience or substance despite being a teacher... you babble on because you think you know more, but clearly you don't... you haven't said anything I haven't heard already... just high and mighty talk cuz you have a superiority complex and dominance issues... you just want to feel right no matter what the logic is against your argument... I've shot down all your points and examples... so I'll just say that i won and move on...

That's the problem with that way of thinking. Everyone must conform, whether they like it or not, go ask some students if they enjoy taking tests and writing papers, I'm betting most would rather spend the time playing even if it was a learning game.. if the goal is to learn then the tool should fit the student not the other way around is my point...

You say tools I say busy work... exams and tests add unnecessary anxiety on students and create "binge learning"/ last night cramming that doesn't store into long term memory... making it pointless... and creates negative reinforcement so people only do the bare minimum. You mention art which is funny considering many schools are getting rid of music, art, and PE programs cuz of budget issues... so they don't see them as the main priority. Only the parts where you sit and listen.

Only about 68% of kids graduate CA high school each year that should... drop out rates is somewhere around over 20%... 35% if you're black... 25.5% if you're Latino... I don't know about you but that is unacceptable in my book...

How am I "ignorant of the process of teaching"? Kids sit in desks - FACT Teachers lecture - FACT ... what did I leave out the part where teachers assign homework, grade papers, and hand out exams? Is that the "process" I left out? Maybe you do something different... enlighten me to your process...

More high and mighty banter... We are apes, mammals... we learn through play... ask any scientist... go watch some primates learn in the zoo... You can defend schools all you want... but the low track records will always speak louder... the American school system is outdated... reform is in direr need... and i don't need to be apart of something to see it's not working properly... That's like saying you can't criticize how the government is doing things cuz you're not an office holder

I have every right to "sound aggressive" when you call me ignorant... If you're in the ED field then maybe you're part of the problem... i just figured that. I've been in school most my of my life, private school, public school, high school, and state college ect. 80% of classroom time is spent on lecturing... yes in those plastic chairs... I generalize because it's generally true... did you sit on bean bags in high school? Didn't think so... Why are you so afraid of new ideas?
Jester2415 (November 28th, 2009 @ 7:08 am)
My reason was no more "vague" then yours talking about how I don't know anything about education.. who the hell are you to tell me what I do or don't know... you don't even know me. You haven't made a single point either... If I'm wrong prove it... where's your counter argument? Other than "You sound stupid" cuz i don't agree with you bullshit, also congrats you googled some names to make you sound smart... maybe you learned something by accident so this conversation wasn't a waste

LOL... you're right I'm not in the education field, however I know a lot more about how a child's brain learns then most... why is "Learning by Playing" such a scary concept? In a country where a huge portion of kids are failing and/or obese, is going outside and interacting with the environment and each other such a bad thing? Hell, while playing some boardgames/ quiz games(like jeopardy) kids could learn the SAME information and actually be motivate to do so. Go read some books on the subject.
