Istanbul Cumhuriyet Mitingi - Harbiye Marsi

Two weeks after the Ankara Meeting was held to protest the Islamic AKP government and its non-secular practices, Turks gathered in Istanbul on April 29, 2007 (29 Nisan) to renew their iron-clad commitment to the secular republic and democracy established by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder and the first President of modern Turkey. The meeting in Istanbul was largely organized by women's organizations. Overall, some 600+ NGOs participated including the Ataturkcu Dusunce Dernegi (ADD), Cagdas Yasami Destekleme Dernegi (CYDD) and Cumhuriyet Kadinlari Dernegi (CKD). This time around literally millions attended the meeting, which was most likely the largest such event in Turkish history. It was a peaceful demonstration against the Islamic AKP government and its non-democratic ways to attempt to appoint an Islamic president. The designated president in this case is Abdullah Gul, whose wife wears the headscarf (sikmabas turban) which was invented quite recently by Islamists as a weapon and an intimidation tool to protest secularism and the secular state establishment. Their ultimate goal is to establish a religious state based on sharia law and essentially take Turkey several hundred years back to the stone ages. This should not only alarm the Turks, but the entire region including the Caucasus, Balkans and Europe as they will also suffer the consequences. The music is Harbiye Marsi, one of many wonderful Turkish marches. HARBİYE MARŞI Yıldırımlar yaratan bir ırkın ahfadıyız (soyuyuz), Tufanları gösteren tarihlerin yadıyız (hatırasıyız), Kanla, irfanla (bilgiyle) kurduk biz bu Cumhuriyeti, Cehennemler kudursa, ölmez nigahbanıyız (nöbetcisiyiz). Yaşa varol Harbiye, yıkılmaz satvetinle (gücünle), Göklerden gelen bir ses sana ne diyor, dinle: Türk vatanı üstünde sönmez güneşsin sen, Kartal yuvalarında hürdür millet seninle. Yüzyıllardır Harbiye bu orduya şan verir, Çıkardığı dehalar semalara yükselir. Baştan başa tarihtir mektebin her zerresi Sarsılmayan azminle çelik kaleler erir. Şahikalar (zirveler) üstünde meydan okur bu erler, Yaklaşacak düşmana mezar olur bu yerler. Bağlayamaz bir kuvvet bu kasırga milleti Tarihlere sorun ki bize "Ölmez Türk" derler.
