8830 Engine SwapBackInstalling a Cummins B series in an 8830. All parts made from scratch including front pump drive and flywheel. Being paranoid about balance issues i spent literally hours just setting up the flywheel steel in the lathe (to within 1/4 of a thou). It paid off. Professional balancing company had to drill a 6mm hole just 4mm deep to balance the 45Kg flywheel which started out as a 85Kg lump of steel. 40Kg of swarf takes up a hell of a lot of space. There were nearly 10 barrow fulls of the stuff! Nice! How did you align the engine?

what you have done is amazing m8te ! didn't the original flywheel fit ? have you done a dyno test since the overhaul ? I'm curious about the output. you're right about the Ford engines , drops dead under 1800rpm's. how's the powershift holding up ? I like it a lot but I prefer a TW with the constant mesh box. raw power.
cheers,
Roel.

Beautiful work. The labor involved in lo production volume, one off parts/assys is unbelievable.

wonderfull job with the chassis!
How does the pulling power compare to the original engine??
v12cat (Friday 28th of December 2007 03:23:39 PM)
Top end I would say similar however far more bottom end power. The ford engine would die if pulled down much below 1800rpm but the cummins pulls hard way below this.

Cheshire.

Side exhaust was a purely functional addition. The big standard pipe is really annoying when power harrowing or ploughing. I would have rather it stayed for originality really.
This vid was purely functional too, hence no music but point taken and I agree.

It's been no trouble up to now. I bought the tractor 9 years ago and the gearbox had been replaced 18 months before i bought it. It had 10K on the clock when i bought it and had around 15 to 16k now (clock stopped working a while ago). Wraight said the same to me but i was the one spending the money not him! It has been a brilliant machine and the conversion got rid if the weakest link in my opinion.
