Iowa Interstate RIBI Ethanol Cans With GE Power- Three Cities. 11-2-09.Back11:54AM- I never expected to chase the Iowa today, but always expect the unexpected. I went to CSX Rockdale Yard to see if anything interesting was going on. At first, everything seemed dead. Even the yard set wasn't around. Then I soon heard IAIS #505 call itself out over the scanner to the Metra Rock Island Dispatcher seeking permission to go East. Soon enough, the Rock Island-Blue Island Ethanol extra appeared around the corner and slowly made its way through the yard. This train was set up to run in push-pull fashion and IAIS #504 was pushing at the rear. 12:03PM- The RIBI stopped down the line as expected, since they were waiting for the lift bridge to lower, as well as Amtrak and Metra to clear to scene at Joliet Union Depot. The old 407 Lift Bridge was starting to lower by the time I got my camera set up. I knew it wouldn't be long now before the RIBI got permission to cross. 12:20PM- The engineer turns on the lights and starts moving through the 10mph speed limit between here and UD tower. 12:25PM- Seen from the Center St. Bascule Bridge, the RIBI slowly advances over Bridge 407. This lift bridge is owned by operated by CSX. Everything East of the bridge is owned and dispatched by Metra. 12:38PM- The DPU is probably clear of the bridge as they slowly gain speed through the Metra coach yard. Years ago, this area was filled with lots of Rock Island E-units. They are only seconds away from pounding the CN/EJ&E diamonds further down. 12:44PM- The RIBI has really picked up speed as it travels through New Lenox where US Route 30 parellels the tracks. The engineer shouted "put it on Youtube!" as he rolled past. 12:47PM- Im in the car now pacing the RIBI the best I could while they continue on to Blue Island topping about 40 mph. 12:50PM- The chase ends at a sweeping curve just West of the New Lenox Metra Station.
