Lys Gauty, born Alice Gauthier on February 14, 1900, in Levallois-Perret in Paris area. Sang initially in local cinemas before the first engagement with the cabaret "At Fyscher" where George van Parys accompanied her at the piano. At the end of the Twenties, Lys became one of the queens of the popular love song and throughout the years a great performer of French chanson. Died in Monegasque, January 2, 1994. Here is presented in tango "Espoir" ('Hope' /I am looking for love.../).
