Mr. Snuggleduck's Prey ReviewBackReview No. 7 This week Mr. Snuggleduck gets beamed into the sci-fi ride that is Prey. The game was in development for approximately ten years, originally thought up by the 3D Realms development team (who were working on the infamous Duke Nukem Forever) After years of abandoning and restarting the project, Prey was completed in 2006, worked on by two commissioned development teams under 3D Realms' supervision. Prey takes players to the Sphere, a massive spaceship, hundreds of miles in length. Here the hero Tommy, a member of the Cherokee tribe embraces his culture to survive the encounter with hundreds of aliens and save his girlfriend. It's very unlike traditional shooters because of the addition of Spirit Walk, a feature allowing players to travel through areas that they couldn't usually in order to progress. This ability essentially makes Prey into a FPS / Puzzle hybrid where you'll have to use your perspective to solve it. An example is gravity walk where Tommy defies Newton and walks on walls. I thought Prey was very similar to Portal, except with the addition of guns, an antagonist reminiscent of GlaDOS is even there. Prey has only two ports including the PC and Xbox 360, it has also been released on Steam. I recommend the PC version. This was 3D Realms' last game to reach the shelves before its closure. A sequel is currently in development by Radar. I personally loved it, I think the score on metacritic has been butchered by expectations. A great sci-fi ride to play on a lazy afternoon.
