Australia vs England 1975

Back

Tony Greig is responsible for two of the most disastrous decisions in cricketing history. He is best known for the "grovel" remark about the West Indies that resulted in Richards and co. crushing England to a pulp in 1976. But the arguably more stupid decision was the one to bowl a bouncer to Lillee in the 1975 series in Australia. Unfortunately for Grieg, the 1975 Australian team included two of the fastest bowlers the world has ever seen. On the way back to the pavilion, Lillee looked at Grieg and said: "Just remember who started this." For the rest of the series, Lillee and Thomson battered England. At the end of the series, an editorial cartoon succinctly summed up England's travails over the season: "Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust, If Thomson doesn't get you, Lillee must." Highlights and commentary.
