man...I've been addicted to drifting since I was 12-years-old. wow, that's been 7 years ago lol

drifting involves alot of skill due to the driver needing to control precisely the entry angle, going round the apex, line, how much the rear wheels slide etc. in this way it can be more technical than other forms of motor sports. however it is not always necessarily the fastest way around corners due to loss of grip when sliding, though the car exits at higher speeds. thats why you dont see drifting in f1, but you see it in rallies, where the terrain calls for drift to be applied

Excuse me, I was hating a little too hard there. YEAH! DRIFT! I LOVE DRIFT! There, that's better.

Or, if you like oversteer so much, go see a Sprint Car Race. Those dirt jerks drift better than any guy outta Japan. (I don't really care for dirt car racing. I think dirt is for growing potatoes but the fact still remains...)

Do SCCA guys drift or do they beat their cars through tight courses at unreal E.Ts. i.e FWD VWs! Yeah, yeah, yeah... every other import too-as well as domestic pony cars.

No argument; a great amount of skill & an even greater amount of fun but is that much oversteer really necessary? Is it really the quickest way around a track? Are these guys really about speed or simply style points @ the expense of thousands of $ (or yen) in tires? I just don't get the obsession with drift. It's an amazing skill though; an amazing car setup.

A drift is a drift. It is not about the expense, it is about style, skill and the enjoyment of the fans. If it is expense you are talking about, then you should have a big issue with all competitions (F1 race, Moto GP , . . .) Those 2 cost hundreds of millions each year for each team.

Don't forget NHRA! But ask yourself, how many competitive drifters do you know? It's a Japanese fad that American kids are all taken with. It's cool, don't get me wrong but any 'event' that's judged soley on style points and how well you "follow the leader" will always be limited to car shows and a demo here and there.
