C. Galos: Le Lac de Côme (Lake Como), 6th Nocturne

Back

The composer of this popular 19th c salon piece is a mystery. I had thought he/she was Italian, but having seen discussions on the subject on a piano forum, I think that the author - often spelt as 'Galas' - was French, and quite possibly female, and had died (or given up writing) by 1924. Galos's pieces are composed of stock salon clichés. However,, they succeed where so much similar music has been forgotten because they lie well on the piano, have pleasant melodies, and, above all, they are well-proportioned and concise.. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk
