Practical Examples of using a Virtual 3D Environment for Learning in High SchoolBackFollow me on Twitter - @steve_collis. Blog: www.happysteve.com In this video I guide you through a wide range of practical uses of a 3D virtual world or environment (we use 'Second Life' to create one) for High School students. The uses fall into 2 categories: 1. Open-ended, student-directed projects, encouraging the development of high-order skills such as creativity, project-management and collaboration. 2. Structured, targetted activities directed by teachers with specific learning outcomes in mind. All the activities I present meet my criteria of being low effort (for the teacher) but high impact (for the students). Many of the activities adapt themselves well to different ages and learning areas, especially the discussion activities. Others lend themselves to particular subjects, for example Visual Arts, Music, Maths, or English/History. The activities encompass auditory and visual communication. e.g. our virtual art galley and virtual radio station, as well as text communication.
