McLaughlin is one of the great guitarists, of that there is no doubt. I just think sometimes he is far more technical than he is groovey. Excuse the poor analogy but I would much rather listen to Bernie Edwards than Marcus Miller for similar reasons

Oh yeah, he also plays those lines on the guitar that make "soulful" players like Benson weep, lol. I think they are the perfect contrast although they could have switched songs just to see, "what happens". How about that?

I only wish I had one thousandth of the endurance and career stamina that Johhny McLaughlin had, the talent wouldn't hurt either, lol. Does anyone have his very first record? One listen and you knew that this cat was going to be around a long long time, innovative to say the least is an understatement. Shit I sound like a teenage girl talking about this guy, lol. It's only harmless envy of his "amazingness". I am going to post some vids of my meager attempts at leading bands, very soon here.

Its alright I am latin guitarist and I think he is doing the "spanish thing" here like a dad dancing at the wedding. The fact is that he does it quite well in his own "English" way. He plays like a master craftsman and sometimes the furniture he makes is more for presentation than for "lounging around" in. He does create timeless enduring pieces though. John has what they call "endurance squared". This makes him timeless and therefore "one of the immortals". We honor each other through music.
