In the context of 1940, MEB obviously experimenting with animation as an adult art-form. Pre-digital, a very different kind of activity. She was trying, I think, to get sound and vision to combine in a new way, a pioneer in this. But check out her PAssages from Finnegans Wake (1967) where Joyce's dream-spawned word-patterns dance with her surreal visuals and a great soundtrack.
