MICS sumo robot 2007-- ConcordiaBackMICS sumo robot competition 2007. Concordia College entered a heavyweight robot, winning the heavyweight division, despite a close battle with a yellow robot. SUPPLIES/STRATEGY--Our robot used an IFI micro-controller, 4 servos, 2 line sensors, 3 ultrasonic sensors, and 2 infrared sensors. The ultrasonic sensors would emit pings to find the closest object, advance the robot towards it, and use the infrared sensors to detect the width of it. If the infrared sensors detected too much of a difference, we assumed it was the pole and try to back up and go around it. what the **** is this?!? im a robot hobbyist or a robot maniac im still 8 years old then... when i made my first robot which is both autonomic and controllable which means it is a humanoid robot using legs & arms in fighting.... sorry to disappoint you though........

Also, these robots (being in the heavy weight) are geared up for power, not speed. They have multiple pounds of pushing force.

Very true. Some of the sumo robots I saw going so fast could not have been heavyweight, or their inertia would have carried them right off the board.
This is the heavyweight division as is stated in the description.

'Also' and 'Very true,' -- thanks for civil responses -- I didn't mean to offend and I didn't call anybody any names, after all -- I am impressed by the fast and kinetic style of the japanese version -- could 'fast' and heavyweight' ever be combined? -- I want to know more about these competitions -- where's the best place on the web to learn?

To idiot (daleroes), the japanese sumo 'robots' you've seen are basically RC cars. In other words: not autonomous (notice the large antennea?). These are autonomous (meaning no remote control).

are you kidding me? -- the japanese sumo-bots would own all over these things -- the whole show looks like the
J sumo-bots in slow motion

Looks like I've picked out carpet for my next house.

We made a whole new one. We bought all new parts, a list of which you can see in the description.
It was very fun and we look forward to next year!

you guys owned hard this year, we failed last year and completely missed the competition two years ago even though we were there... did you use any of Joel's robot from last year or a new one from scratch?
