thank you so much for saying that there is no such thing as an average person, my art teacher was trying to convince us to draw a certain person using that method. i strongly disagreed with him. i think that the grid is a useful way of helping you map things out.

While there is no such thing as the average person, it does help when drawing faces from memory, or from sight, as you don't always have a perfect grid to lay out on somebody's face. If known how to use properly, it can be a very useful tool. You have to learn to spot differences from the average person, and be able to replicate those in your drawing. When copying an image, a grid would be a much better option, as you can get much more accurate results, but you don't always have a grid.

I've personally never used that technique for either drawing from memory or sight so i can't argue with you. I was just wondering if it was a useful tool to use when drawing a specific person from a picture?

I've trieid to draw people from memory, just when I'm bored or something. Yes, I 100% agree with you that drawing a picture from a grid is more accurate than proportions, but if both are mastered, I would think proportions would be a much more useful tool in other situations.

no offence at all but youd think with an artistic ability like that youd have some solid handwriting haha

from what i can tell most good artists actually have horrible handwriting.
