Klaus on 'Absolutely Inadequate' Czech court ruling over Lisbon

Back

With no one else present, Czech President Vaclav Klaus on Tuesday put his signature under the Lisbon Treaty on the future of the European Union. Klaus was the last European leader to sign off on the treaty that will, among others, create position known informally as 'European president' and 'European foreign minister.' European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said, in a message read to journalists in Brussels, that he hopes there now will be no further obstacles to the treaty, and that it can enter into force on the first of January 2010. Barroso was not immediately able to comment directly because he was a one plan heading for Washington together with Fredrik Reinfeldt, Prime Minister of of Sweden, for a EU-US summit that also will include US President Barack Obama.
