I interpreted it as the trip freaking Dave out to the point of near insanity, and maybe showing Dave's reaction would fuel the same reaction in the audience (at least it did for me)

Im 21 and just recently saw this about a month ago. Absolutely amazing. Why do people say the makers were on drugs when they made this? Some people just have brilliant minds. Not all of us have to take drugs to make something like this, or appreciate it for that matter.

I wish someone would make an "alternate ending" to 2001 which shows what is narrated in the book.

Worm hole bending light and wrippling of space time etc into toehr worlds and perhaps existence into the begining. The thing that freaks me out is that he knoew this stuff in 1969 when leave it to beaver was on? Very advanced thinking. Also the end with the time space old new thing showing time distortion and that you can see slef if you travel fsst enough and distort the laws of space...the rules change when you bedn matter/wripple it or mess with it?
