I just don´t understand how a band like the Yardbirds having probably the 3 best guitar players of all times in Beck, Page and Clapton didn't achieve as much as the beatles or the stones did in the 60s.

Songwriting, my friend. Guitar gods, but Lennon and McCartney as song writers was everything, and Richards and Jagger to a lesser degree, I'd say.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a Massive Attack song called "Safe from Harm" that has the EXACT same groove and bass note structure as the verse. It's such a tight groove.

Well now you know where it comes from even though the original version is to be found on a Billy Cobham recording from 1973

I knew that, heh... did Beck ever do a version of this on an album? I thought I had every album and every song but ehhhhh.

It's a Tommy Bolin song! See if you can get your hands on the live version of Stratus from Ebbet Field from June 73 I think it is, sitting on the wrong computer so I can't check the info, it's mindblowing!

I know that Billy changes the arrangements to this song all of the time. I prefer the original arrangement, it just sounds more organic/raw.

Beck and Vinnie both looked very happy playing together during this festival. Vinnie is a happy guy anyway but Beck tends to be a dour character, he is a perfectionist. But he he and Vinnie were smiling a lot playing together. I never saw Beck look so happy in a concert. I wish I had been there for that concert that entire set was unbelieable.

I think Billy Cobham should get Lee Sklar, Jan Hammer and Beck and redo the Spectrum album with that line up. Get the REAL guys together. Too bad for what happened to Tommy Bolin. I saw Bolin a few months before he passed away. Bolin was definitely a unique player, especially with the echoplex. I love Beck too.

It is awful to get into an argument of Vinnie versus Billy Cobham. I saw Cobham live a number of times during his peak in the 1970's. There was only one, and will only ever be one drummer like Cobham was THEN. However Vinnie is the greatest drummer playing today. It is also fair to say that Vinnie is a more versatile drummer than Billy ever was. For pur, blinding, inhuman technique on the drums I give it to Cobham. He could do drum rolls on the bass drums it was getting punched in the ribs
