Libretto: Gaetano Rossi Recitativo: Sì, ne profitterò Aria: Rendi il consorte amato Zeliska: Eiddwen Harry Orchestra: Philharmonia Orchestra Conductor: David Parry L'amor conjugale is based on Léonore ou L'Amour conjugal, first set to music by Pierre Gaveaux and later by Paer and Beethoven. Beethovens Fidelio had it's premiere only couple of months later after Mayr's opera. The action is the same in all opera but Mayr's is set in Poland and Leonora is Zeliska and Pizzaro has become Moroski. The recitivo and aria are the equivalent to Leonoras recitativo "Abscheulicher! wo eilst du hin and the aria Komm Hoffnung, althoug Mayr writes in an italian aria in the grand manner of opera seria, Beethoven writes in the manner of german singspiel, he never losing sight of sentiment and lyricism, he is closer to Mozart than Beethoven.
