University of Maryland, College Park Filipino Cultural Association ALAMAT NG PILIPINAS 31st Annual Philippine Culture Night April 11, 2009 This 'dance with lights' comes from the island or Mindoro. The female dancers gracefully and skillfully balance three tinghoy, oil lamps, on their heads and backs of their hands. Oasiwas, means 'swinging' and comes from Lingayan, Pangasinan. After a good catch, fishermen and villagers celebrate by swinging and circling lighted lamps wrapped in fishnet. Taught by Don Verde Inspired by the Bayanihan Dance Company
