actually i like how the ending ended even though ITS VERY DEPRESSING and no one longed to have this kind of ending. But if the ending had tony leung killed and the students rejoicing at the end of the film then it would not have a strong impact on the audience of hte students losing and being killed whilst tony conquering

hear hear. that's what makes this movie so outstanding. it captured that time period perfectly as during times of unrest, i.e. war, people search so hard for comfort and love howevery people tend to forget about love when their life is in danger. selfishness is such a horrible human trait =(

wasn't expecting a fairytale ending aka hollywood or whatever. they could have succeeded to kill that traitor. it's a pity that she lost her heart instead and resulted in 6 deaths! that is a BIG wastage.
