Spoems - Penn & Teller Second Hand Smoke Correction

Penn & Teller Second Hand Smoke Correction

Back

Penn and Teller correct a claim from their TV show Bullshit. Penn explains there is evidence that second hand smoke does cause cancer. This is from a Q and A session at the Amazing Meeting (January 2005). Southpark did an episode which incorrectly asserts there is no tie as well. See: http://www.randi.org/amazingmeeting/

Funny how stinky cigarette smoke causes people to cough, gag, get headaches and throw up, but we all have to wait around for a scientific study to tell us whether it's harmful. What a steaming load of bullshit indeed. Penn & Teller really are in the pockets of big tobacco by echoing here their Philip Morris-funded Cato Institute propaganda.

Penn & Teller are Cato Institute shills. The Cato Institute is dedicated to abolishing Social Security, labor unions, environmental protection, Medicare/Medicaid and any regulation of corporations whatsoever. Big oil, big tobacco and big banking monster corporations fund the Cato Institute to put a legitimate face on their ongoing rape of humanity.

And I'm you with you d2eux, it's a shame how easy it is for most to simply accept movies like Zeitgeist as the ultimate truth, without doing the research themselves. It's kind of ironic too, because even Zeitgeist says to do the work & check their sources yourself for legitimacy. I mean, the movie means well, but in the end, it's almost no better than your folks, guardians, religious, and/or political figures trying to push their beliefs on you without a hidden agenda.

I love Penn & Teller's show, but the problem is that the second hand smoke debate will continue to be just that, a debate. There's no clear cut way to prove it effects people, in general, right now, in the near future, or way into the future the same way for 1 person as it does for another. You also can not determine exactly how much a person has enhaled second hand smoke throughout their lifetimes anyway, so it makes a general claim like, "2nd hand smoke is harmless" that much more ridiculous.

I've got respect for anyone who can admit they were wrong too. However, stating that 2nd hand smoke isn't bad for you was a boldfaced lie to begin with and they and every one else in the world knew it. When faced directly with that much evidence and a studio of people it's more like self preservation than real honesty. It's hard to lie to a room full of real people when they know your caught. Besides, they still aren't taking real accountability for what they said--just trying to glaze it over.

This checks out. >>> "Penn & Teller's Cato Institute was taking money from Philip Morris tobacco company while churning out bogus "scholarly" papers saying 2nd-hand smoke was harmless. Rupert Murdoch was on the boards of both the Cato Institute & Philip Morris at the time, and collecting $75M/year in advertising revenues from Philip Morris subsidiary Miller Brewing. Penn & Teller got their lucrative TV series & Vegas contracts after joining the corporate propaganda factory Cato Institute."

So is mmmrazor and funboy the same guy? Because they keep popping in and copypastaing the same bullshit.

You are correct, sir. Everybody who disagrees with Penn & Teller (and hence you) must be the same guy. There is only one legitimate opinion and that is yours. Any opposing opinion expressed must be coming from a "lone nut." Penn & Teller are infallible gods. Like you I dream to one day receive their worldview intravenously, and to have no bothersome thoughts of my own.

Why did d2eux's comment get knocked down? The followers of the Zeitgeist film are drones, just like the Fox News drones.
d2eux (Thursday 13th of November 2008 02:02:37 PM)
why, because if you question the almighty truth of Zeitgeist, you are then considered someone who wants to silence the truth! ;) HEIL ZEITGEIST!! Spirit of the Age for the brainwashed masses! seriously, people just stumble upon movies like Z and think they have discovered the ultimate truth, when just a few minutes of research will debunk most of its claims, especially part I. Thats the problem, they dont do any research of their own and just absorb it like sponges.
