Videography Techniques How to Shoot a Voice Over - Sequencing Video Tutorial

Back

Here is a short video I put together on shooting a VO ( voice over). I wanted to focus primarily on the sequencing of the VO once you have it shot and you are editing the video. However, how you shoot a VO is just as important as how the final product is put together. Wide, medium and tight are great but if they are all of the same object and you're not moving your camera around to get varying shots of your subject(s) then it won't matter much in the editing room. Also, there are no dissolves or cross fades in the editing for a reason. If you cannot shoot and edit together a simple VO without using a dissolve, then you're not shooting it correctly. I always try to tell new photographers to edit their stories together without dissolves because doing so will show very quickly whether or not you shot enough video and if the video you shot was the correct video to properly put together the story. "Cut aways" are life savers and most photographers especially new photographers don't shoot enough.
