This Apartment- original country song by Michael Hauser

Back

Michael Hauser performs his original song "This Apartment" which he wrote shortly after moving to Nashville. He lived in an apartment in the Antioch area, and before then, had always lived in a house under his parents' roof. The inspiration was more from his seperation from family and friends than a real break-up. The song was performed at a few writers nights and made quite a buzz in the Nashville songwriting community. One of the co-writers of "Don't Take the Girl" by Tim McGraw even offered to pitch the song if he could put his name on it as a co-writer. At one point, Michael's dad and brother went to Red Ridge Entertainment on Music Row to see about getting a video made for the song. The guy they talked to there said, "Do you know how many songs we have heard about apartments lately?" Little did he know that the song they presented was the one that started everyone's quest to write their own apartment song. As the co-writer of "Don't Take the Girl" said: "You don't have to worry about anyone stealing this song, because it couldn't have been written any other way and be near as good." Recently a friend of Michael's contacted him online to ask about the song, and said that he was talking to some people at the Fiddle and Steel bar in Nashville about songs they have heard, and one person brought up this song. He said he about fell out of his chair, because he used to play drums for Michael's band when they played various bars on the strip in downtown Nashville, TN. ~This Apartment~ (lyrics) copyright 1999 Staring at the walls, they're all bare When it comes to my heart, it's not all there It's broken and scattered along the driveway, where I last saw you You don't ever call, you don't even care I'm feeling down in this complex, at the top of the stairs You left no choice, I did what I could do Your love moved out so I just moved into.... (Chorus) This Apartment, It's nothing like the place I once called home I never knew I'd feel so alone And now I clearly see, that when you set me free This is what apart meant The rent is high, no pets allowed I just sit all alone, with the stereo up loud Crying over songs that me and you used to listen to I'll get by, I don't know how All my reasons are gone, since you're not around It's lonely here in this old one bedroom, this empty heart compares so much to.... (Chorus) I never imagined, living without you I wish being apart, didn't have to mean we're through....cause (chorus) And now I clearly see, that when you set me free This is what apart meant (x2)
