RawkusBixhu, There was no guitar in the case. It was his suitcase. He had actually been travelling a long way to his destination, the West Coast via hitch hiking, to become a star in Hollywood. The female realizes that he has travelled far to seek his dream, and she did not want to burden him with a committment to a relationship that might detour his dream since he had travelled so far. Free love in the sixties. No committments. Amblin'... it's not the destination, it's the journey. Right?

a bit on the odd side, but nontheless, a visionary film considering what was available to the average joe back then. But what else could you expect from 60s cheese. It was films like this that truly brought steven speilberg to where he is today. He remains the definitive creator of the modern american movie.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Spielberg isn't even that great of a director, but has been given some very good imaginative projects that we all associate him with, but could have been well directed or significantly better directed by others.
