the jam and paul weller were influenced by lots of music from soul to the faces and to all who say they were punks ,when did punks ever wear suits? the jam were all about power and weller,s lyrics were sometimes political but punks ha bloody ha do me a favour

i saw the jam in 2007 - paul weller with a differnt singer ,they were awesome even with the singer he sounded just like weller

They were mods but paul weller said that they were influenced by punk and the pistols they were mods!!!

dude, if you weren't there in 76/77, then shut it, because your " 20 years later" opinion doesn't mean anything. Back then they were as punk as anything else coming out. Punk was so varied back then, and that's what made it so great. And yes, I was there.

in the city what a great album from the best band ever, i am from sheerwater any real jam fans will know that name, used to live five doors away from bruce foxton and weller was two years above me at school also rick buckler was there as well but had another name in those days

The Jam will always be a Mod band not a Punk band New wave or anything else they will probably always be the best MOD band of all time. I give you John Weller put your hands togeather and welcome the best band in the FUCKING WORLD THE JAM

Of course they are THE mod band - but if I´d been around in 76/77 like they have been, if also would have said like Paul Weller did: We´re a punk band, and we´re proud of it. And where to draw the line anyway - The Who in ´65 were more punk than most of the bands in´77. Actually, they were the original punks; didn´t care about the rest, just made noise.
